The Nepal-Japan Children’s Library – Update: June 2020

The library is currently closed to visitors due to the pandemic. Staff and volunteers continue to work in the library to maintain the resources and prepare for the time when the library can safely reopen.   Library staff and volunteers thank supporters of the Nepalese Children’s Trust for their continued support.

The Nepalese Children’s Trust raises money to help support the library, the only one of its kind in Nepal.  It  is completely free and open to all children.  The Nepalese Children’s Trust raises funds throughout the year to purchase books and other educational materials including toys.  Good quality educational toys are expensive and hard to come by in Nepal and the development of the toy library is an ideal way to give as many young children as possible access to quality  resources.

Due to the pandemic, the library is currently closed but staff are carrying out maintenance work and preparing for when the library can safely re-open.  Trustees of Nepalese Children’s Trust and library staff share experiences and ideas (several trustees are teachers and librarians) on their regular visits to Nepal.  As visits to Nepal will not be possible this year, plans are in place to hold Zoom meetings with staff.

Toys are educational too!
